The Akuapim South Municipal Assembly, through the Information Services Department (ISD), organized its maiden orientation program for Community Information Centre (CIC) operators on the 22nd July, 2026 at the Assembly’s Hall, to enhance their understanding of the Assembly's operations and strengthen effective information dissemination and service delivery within the municipality.
The orientation program brought together key management members of the Assembly, including the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Information Directorate, officials from the Finance Department and Budget Unit, Assembly staff, and Community Information Centre operators.
In his opening address, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Emmanuel Appiah-Kubi, urged the operators to uphold professionalism, integrity, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.
He emphasized the importance of teamwork, discipline, and effective communication in promoting the Assembly's development agenda and improving service delivery.
The Municipal Information Director, Madam Harriet Ateko Darko, encouraged the operators to serve as credible and reliable sources of information within their respective communities by ensuring the accurate, timely, and responsible dissemination of government policies, program, and Assembly activities.
Delivering a presentation on the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the Municipal RTI Officer, Madam Victoria Nyarkoa, encouraged participants to channel requests for public information through the RTI Unit to facilitate access to official government information in accordance with the law.
She also appealed for subsidization to enhance information dissemination through the Community Information Centers across the municipality.
Speaking on Environmental Health and noise control, the Acting Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Frederick Aboagye, advised the operators to exercise responsibility in the use of their public address systems by complying with acceptable noise levels.
He noted that the Assembly had received complaints from residents regarding excessive noise and urged participants to be mindful of the Environmental Protection Agency's guidelines and the Assembly's regulations.
Officials from the Finance Department educated participants on the importance of obtaining Business Operating Permits (BOPs), maintaining sound financial management practices, and ensuring accountability. The Budget Unit also sensitized participants on the importance of tax compliance, budget preparation, implementation, and monitoring in supporting the Assembly's development priorities.
Addressing the participants on cooperative development, the Cooperative Director, Madam Dorcas Kwakye, encouraged the operators to establish an association to strengthen collaboration, facilitate effective information dissemination, and position themselves to benefit from government support programs and other opportunities.
Participants expressed their appreciation to the Assembly for organizing the orientation program describing it as timely, informative, and beneficial. They also raised concerns and sought clarification on issues affecting their operations, all of which were addressed by the resource persons.
At the close of the program, the participants pledged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to improve information dissemination, strengthen community engagement, and contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the Akuapim South Municipality.
